Eagles, falcons, ospreys, owls, hawks and vultures are among the birds of prey at the Carolina Raptor Center located within Latta Plantation Nature Preserve. The Raptor Center is dedicated to the rehabilitation, research, and conservation of these birds as well as educating the public about raptors. A walk on the Nature Trail takes you to the outdoor aviaries, which host over 20 different species of live birds of prey. Programs presented on weekends provide interesting information about raptor education, rehabilitation and research.

In the late 1850’s, some students at Davidson College proposed a landscape remodeling plan to the Board of Trustees. When the plan was not successful, the students decided to plant trees themselves all over campus. Since that time, the grounds of the campus have become home to many different types of plants, flowers and trees. It is even rumored that former United States president, Woodrow Wilson planted a tree during his year at the college. In 1982, Davidson officially became a nationally registered arboretum and there are now over 3,000 labeled trees and other plants.

Every evening join the Historical Ghost Walks starting at 7:00 p.m. in front of the Soda Shop in Davidson. Ticket prices are $10 Adults, $5 Children, and Children 7 and under are Free. All ticket sales are cash. The 1 1/2 - 2 hour walk includes history and ghost stories of Davidson, Lake Norman, and the surrounding area.

Latta Plantation circa 1800 is the last remaining Catawba River plantation open to the public. The 62 acre farm of James Latta, a Scot-Irish merchant, is on the National Register of Historic Sites and consists of the original home and smokehouse, enhanced by eleven other outbuildings, as well as fields, farm animals, a garden and interpreters in period clothing. Latta Plantation is conveniently located just 12 miles north of Charlotte.

Historic Rural Hill Farm was the home of Major John Davidson, American patriot and signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. Today the 265 acre historic plantation stands as a memorial to early American agriculture and has become a cultural center for Scottish heritage. It is the oldest public historic site in Mecklenburg County dating circa 1760.On the farm stands representation of the type of log home the Davidson's would have first lived in establishing Rural Retreat, the ruins of their finest home, and the final home of the family, which houses the museum and gift shop. Outbuildings are open to explore and a variety of animals roam throughout the site including the rare Highland Cows, which originate from Scotland. Two of some of the last remaining one room schoolhouses for black and white children in Mecklenburg County are also located on the farm. Historic Rural Hill is open year round except for certain holidays. Educational programs and special events are held throughout the year.
