After a fire in the early 1920’s destroyed her school, principal Ada Jenkins worked to raise money to build a new school, which became the first school for colored children in Davidson. This school is now the main building of the Ada Jenkins Center. Today, the center’s mission is “to improve the quality of life for the residents of our communities through the integrated delivery of health, education, and human services”.
