Walk, bike, run, or hike! Our local parks offer paved and unpaved trails for cyclist. Lake Norman region has greenways connecting each town and well as trailways that are part of the Carolina Thread Trail, and many roads are cycle friendly with marked bike lanes.
Recently, the Town of Davidson was named a bike friendly community by the League of American Bicyclists (2010-2014). The Davidson's Kincaid Trail at the end of South Street in Davidson and follow an approximately three-mile course, is the official marking of the South Prong Greenway as part of the Carolina Thread Trail system. The Carolina Thread Trail is a regional network of greenways and trails that will reach 15 counties and 2.3 million citizens. It will link people, places, cities, towns and attractions. The trail preserves our natural areas and is a place for exploration of nature, culture, science and history, for family adventures and celebrations of friendship.
Lake Norman was home to the 2008 Inaugural National MTB Oktoberfest at Fisher Farm Park in Davidson. The three-day, family-oriented mountain bike festival features the last race of USA Cycling's 2008 National Ultra Endurance Calendar, as well as short track, time trials, and children's races. The race venue is uniquely designed to take advantage of the early sunset, giving racers the opportunity to ride the trails at night.
