For the nature lovers:

Take advantage of the warm weather and enjoy one of the many beautiful parks Lake Norman has to offer. Go hiking on the Latta Reserve Nature Trails or ride bikes on the West Branch Rocky River Greenway. Enjoy the vibrant sunset by taking a boat ride out of Morningstar Marina. If you want to tackle the fish on your own, visit Ramsey Creek Park’s fishing pier. Grab some snacks from the concession stand and you’ll be set to fish all day.

For the NASCAR lovers:

It’s no secret that the Lake Norman area is a NASCAR fan’s heaven. If dad loves the sport, you can’t pass up a visit to Joe Gibbs Racing. Home of the team’s legendary cars, JGR headquarters offers a race shop viewing area and an extensive souvenir shop.

For the foodies:

You can’t go wrong with barbecue on Father’s Day. Save dad the hassle of cooking his own and visit a local joint. Enjoy some eastern NC style barbecue brisket at Lancaster’s BBQ or some hickory smoked pulled pork at award-winning, Mac’s Speed Shop. For brunch, The Famous Toastery has you covered for all of your omelet and flapjack needs. You want a burger? Birkdale Village, home of Big Daddy’s Burger Bar, allows diners to build their own burger or choose from the vast menu selection. Another popular joint, Crafty Burger n’ Tap, offers a large selection of IPA beers as well as an extended list of wines to further complement your tasty meal. Of course, to cultivate the true Lake Norman experience, visitors can also enjoy the breathtaking lakeside views at restaurants Hello Sailor, Port City Club and North Harbor Club Restaurant and Bar.

For the beer guys:

Lake Norman has quickly become a craft beer destination. Eleven Lakes Brewing, located in Cornelius, features unique drafts like Teri’s Berry Wheat. Live music performances are a popular occurrence in the Lake Norman area and on June 15, Primal Brewery will host a free acoustic show with folk-rock artist Stephen Evans from 8-11 p.m. Stop by the visitor center to pick up a Lake Norman Beer and Wine Trail map to get your day started. With 11 breweries and bottle shops in the area, dad is sure to find his new favorite brew.

For the event-goers:

Enjoy a free concert hosted by the Charlotte Symphony for a euphonious evening on June 14 at McGuire Nuclear Station’s Energy Explorium or June 22 at Bailey Road Park. Catch a movie with the family on June 13 at Our Town Cinemas, a local town favorite, or have a picnic on the lawn at Cornelius’s Outdoor Cinema Series on June 14. Old Town Cinemas offers craft beers and wine for the 21 and ups, and the Outdoor Cinema Series presents a cozy atmosphere for the whole family.
