Full of lights, decorations, and Christmas cheer, Lake Norman is no stranger to the holiday festivities and traditions the Christmas season brings. Wondering how to celebrate at the lake? Look no further. Here are 13 winter events that are snow joke!
Santa Paws in the Park (November 16)
Bring every member of the family out to enjoy what the holiday season has to offer. Join the town of Cornelius for their annual Santa Paws in the Park! This free family event offers photos with Santa for you and your pup and unique dog gifts from local vendors. Afterward, join in on a mile hike with Tommy and his dog, Ripken along Robbins Park's scenic trails.
Santa's Arrival and Tree Lighting (November 16)
Join Birkdale Village as they celebrate the start of the Christmas season with a tree lighting! Bring the whole family out for live music, arts and crafts vendors, and even a parade! Afterward, watch as Santa lights the tree to start the holiday season. Don't forget to get your photo taken with Santa!
Light Up Cornelius (November 30)
What better way to celebrate the holidays than a light show? Come out to the Cornelius Town Hall for the 8th annual Light up Cornelius! Enjoy holiday songs by local performers, carriage rides, a train display, children's activities, food and craft vendors, live entertainment, a tree lighting ceremony, and even a visit from Santa!
Christmas in Cornelius (December 1)
Join Oak Street Mill from 12-6 pm for Christmas in Cornelius! Enjoy live bands, food trucks, holiday carols and choirs, craft breweries, holiday kids crafts and even a visit from Santa. If you feel like getting some Christmas shopping done, browse over 80 local artists and craftsmen to shop for unique Christmas gifts!
Davidson Holiday Gala (December 2-3)
Join the Davidson College Music Department at Duke Family Performance Hall as they celebrate Christmas with song and music. Listen to choirs, orchestra, jazz and soloists perform your most beloved Christmas tunes - and even enjoy a special performance from Dance Davidson! Playing for consistently sold-out houses, come out and enjoy what community members call 'as good as a holiday show in New York City'.
Christmas in Davidson (December 5-7)
An annual tradition since 1988, Christmas in Davidson has become the most popular event in the area, boasting more than 20,000 attendees each year. Stroll down Main Street and shop for Christmas presents, take a trolley ride, and even take the kiddos for pictures with Santa and story time with Mrs. Claus. Afterward, enjoy the live entertainment and holiday goodies local vendors have to offer.
Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol (December 5-22)
Everyone knows the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge, but have you ever wondered whatever happened to Scrooge's old, mean business partner Jacob Marley? Come out to Davidson Community Players at Armour Street Theatre for the show of the season - a clever twist on a classic holiday story.
Cocoa with Santa (December 6)
Bring your little ones over to the Cornelius Arts Center for Cocoa with Santa! Preschoolers can enjoy making holiday arts and crafts, grab a photo with Santa, and even enjoy some cookies and hot cocoa! This event is completely free to attend, so make sure to bring your camera and get ready for a morning full of arts, crafts, and holiday cheer.
A Huntersville Christmas (December 6-7)
Come out to Veterans Park as the Huntersville Parks & Recreation hosts A Huntersville Christmas - a celebration of all things Christmas! This event kicks off December 6th with the annual town center tree lighting to kick off the holiday festivities! Get in the holiday spirit with free activities like rides, pictures with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides, obstacle courses, s'mores, and even holiday performances on stage! View the live Nativity, shop around at local vendors and take photos with the roaming holiday characters.
North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade 2019 (December 7)
Join the towns of Davidson and Cornelius for the 37th annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade! Come out and watch a variety of high school bands, horses, tractors, school groups, organizations, and more march through Davidson and Cornelius on holiday-themed floats. Make sure to stay for the last float, because Santa will be concluding the parade!
Huntersville Half Marathon & Holiday 5k (December 13-14)
The Huntersville Half Marathon and Holiday 5k once again will be held on Friday night, starting at 7:00 pm. The Huntersville Half Marathon will remain on Saturday morning at 8:00 am. This new change will allow runners to have the option to do both events if they are up for the challenge! Benefitting the Novant Health Foundation, participants will have the opportunity to win cash prizes and will receive race apparel and medals upon completion.
Lighted Boat Parade (December 14)
Join Peninsula Yacht Club for their 23rd annual Lighted Boat Parade! Sit back and enjoy the different types of boats all dressed up in holiday lights and decorations. You can also register your own boat to be in the parade! Santa arrives by boat at 6 pm, so make sure you come early to get a good spot!
3rd Annual Christmas Light Boat Parade (December 21)
Head over to Blythe Landing for the light show of the season! Come out and enjoy the variety of boats decked out for the holiday! This event is free, however, you are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for a child in need. All proceeds go to Little Smiles, a local organization that supports children with cancer and other life-impacting diseases, so make sure to bring a blanket and some hot chocolate and enjoy the show!
