  • McNair Evans Jr. ’01 grew up in a small farming town in North Carolina, and worked summers repairing cross-ties and railroad track on a 32-mile freight line. He discovered photography as an anthropology student at Davidson College while recording the oral history of an Appalachian family in Madison County, NC. McNair will discuss recent work including his first monograph, Confessions for a Son (Owl & Tiger, 2014), and his Guggenheim-support project, In Search of Great Men.

In conjunction with his talk, Evans' work will be on display in the McKay Atrium of the Wall Academic Center.

Exhibition and programming made possible through the Bacca Foundation Visiting Lecture and Artist Fund.

Guest parking is available in the lot behind the Belk Visual Arts Center (VAC). The building is wheelchair accessible. All programs of the Van Every/Smith Galleries are free, and everyone is welcome.
