  • “Homegrown,” a choral concert by the Caritas Acapella Ensemble, will celebrate the work of composers from the Carolinas and raise money for the local nonprofit Friendship Gardens. The concert will feature works by Carolinas composers, including Dan Forrest, Daniel Locklair, David Batchelor, James Kevin Gray, Kenney Potter and Jacqueline Yost, among others. The 16-member acapella chorus is conducted by Artistic Director Cathy Youngblood.

“Caritas” is Latin for “charity” or “caring.” As part of its charitable mission, “Acapella artistry with a purpose,” the group donates half of ticket sales proceeds from its concerts to worthy local nonprofits. The charity to benefit from this concert, Friendship Gardens, is a program of the well-known nonprofit Friendship Trays, Charlotte's meals-on-wheels service. Friendship Gardens teaches gardening and grows fresh vegetables for use by Friendship Trays. For more information visit friendship-gardens.org.
