Lake Norman Races & Outdoor Events

There are a number of exciting outdoor events in Lake Norman for everyone to watch, or participate in.  From Warrior Dash to the Loch Norman Highland athletic games at the Scottish Festival, the events below will keep you busy throughout the year. Lake Norman celebrates Art year round with annual events including the Tawba Walk Arts Festival in Spring and Fall and April is for Arts which spotlights gallery crawls, art exhibitions and many more family friendly events.

Watch world ranked professional heavy athletes flip telephone-sized poles, throw weighted stones, hammers, sacks of straw and even battle axes at the Loch Norman Highland athletic games. The event is also host to the Carolina's Open Highland Dancing Championships where you can see and even dance along to a variety of Scottish music.

Dragon boat racing is the fastest growing sport in the world and the annual race held in May celebrates Asian culture and diversity while promoting team-building and wellness. Anyone over the age of 15 is encouraged to participate in the Asian Dragon Boat Races. Each of the three last years, this cross-cultural event has attracted over 7,000 visitors.

Another popular event, the Warrior Dash encourages people to participate in this annual obstacle course that combines all of the Earth's elements in one race. Leap over fires, crawl through muddy waters, run on tough terrain and see if you can cross the finish line first. Each year provides a different course which keeps runners coming back in an effort to top their previous time.
