History
Davidson boasts a rich history that continues to draw visitors and residents alike. Founded in 1837 alongside Davidson College, the town offers a glimpse into the past through its well-preserved historic buildings. Strolling through the Davidson College campus, visitors can admire structures like Eumenean and Philanthropic Halls. Constructed in 1849 and 1850, they are named after the college's first two student societies and still serve as meeting places today. The town's historic district encompasses 394 contributing buildings showcasing Italianate, Greek Revival, and Gothic Revival architectural styles. Beyond its architectural heritage, Davidson holds over 175 years of memories from families, students, and visitors who have experienced its enduring charm.

Another local gem, Brickhouse Tavern, not only serves up delicious meals but also holds a piece of Davidson’s history, as it’s housed in a beautifully refurbished 120-year-old cotton mill.

If you're in town on a Saturday morning, the Davidson Farmers’ Market is a must-visit. Located at 120 S. Main St., next to Town Hall, this year-round market features over 35 local vendors offering fresh produce, meats, baked goods, flowers, and more—all sourced from within a 100-mile radius. The market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. It's a lively gathering place where you can meet farmers, enjoy live music, and discover seasonal specialties.

Davidson's nightlife offers a great mix of relaxing spots and vibrant venues to enjoy live music and delicious drinks. Summit Coffee, known for its organic coffee, is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
