This statue was dedicated on July 4, 2017, and features a six-foot-tall bronze likeness of Corporal Jerry K. Crump on a granite base. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Congressional Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is the highest and most prestigious personal military decoration awarded to recognize U.S. military service members who distinguished themselves by acts of valor. To date, Master Sergeant Crump is one of only a few in Mecklenburg County to receive this award.
