  • The natural place to be! Amenities include a Nature Center, full-service Equestrian Center, 18 miles of hiking trails and horseback riding, picnic area with shelter overlooks, fishing and kayak tours and launch area. Spend the day at the Nature Preserve with plenty to do for the whole family. Take advantage of the launch spot where you can paddle out to Mountain Island Lake where there you will find a lot of great fishing spots. Additional attractions on the preserve include the Carolina Raptor Center. There, they rehabilitate birds of prey while advocating, educating and holding numerous events. The Carolina Raptor Center is dedicated to the conservation of birds of prey and is home to the Southeast's largest eagle aviary. Historic Latta Plantation is also a stones-throw away on the preserve, with the historic cotton plantation dating back to the 1800's. This restored 19th century federal style home is a sight to see! Living history events, tours and educational programs keep Latta Plantation busy with something for everyone. There is so much more to see and do on the Latta Nature Preserve like the discovery hall, outdoor amphitheater and gift shop! Visitors can stop by and observe nature in action at the National Wildlife Federation certified Backyard Habitat Garden. The garden includes bird feeding stations, butterfly gardens, garden stream and demonstration compost area. Self-interpretive trail guides are also available.
