Father’s Day is all about spending quality time with Dad, and there’s no shortage of ways to make him feel special around Lake Norman. We compiled a few ideas to help make June 21 one to remember, whether that means fishing, playing some pickleball, or simply enjoying a laid-back day together around the lake. From outdoor adventures to local favorites, there’s something to make every dad happy across Cornelius, Davidson, and Huntersville!

The Breakfast Dad Deserves
Kick the day off with a hearty breakfast and delicious coffee provided by many of our wonderful restaurants. You can stop by Eggs Up Grill for a classic founder's hash and eggs. Over in Davidson, Sully's Steamers serves up warm, melty bagel sandwiches that are sure to satisfy any dad.
Want a specialty coffee to further brighten the morning? Grab a freshly brewed coffee from The Outpost LKN, Summit Coffee, or Lost Worlds Brewing which has also ventured into the coffee scene.
A Father's Day Built for the Outdoors
For the dad that loves adventure, Lake Norman has you covered! Our area is home to a number of trails and greenways, like the Latta Nature Preserve and the West Branch Rocky River Greenway (which now connects to Fisher Farm Park), providing space to hike, bike, and run.
You can spend a relaxing afternoon on the water by booking a pontoon rental with Ride LKN or enjoying a private boating experience with Carolina Cruising Charters for the whole family. You can also find watersport rentals like paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes at Long Island Paddle Sports or What's Up Watersports. For something a little more exhilarating, take a jet ski out from Jet Ski Rentals at Lake Norman LLC.
Have your own kayak or paddle board already? Drive to Latta Nature Preserve and launch out from one of their access areas. The North Canoe Access includes an ADA-accessible launch platform in a calm cove.
Fishing is one of the most beloved, relaxing pastimes of Lake Norman visitors and residents alike, and let's be honest, who’s dad doesn’t like to fish? If you’re looking to try it out without investing in gear, you can borrow a rod for free at the Quest Center in Latta Nature Preserve or through the Tackle Loaner Program at Cornelius Town Hall. For live bait, check out local spots like MFO Lake Norman or Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Already have your own equipment? Head to the ADA-accessible Patriot Pier at Ramsey Creek Park, which also features a public swimming beach—perfect for a full day outdoors. Whether you're casting from a pier, shoreline, or boat, Lake Norman offers some of the best year-round fishing in the region.
Dad's Turn to Serve
Trade the typical Father's Day plans for a few pickleball matches at The Serve Pickleball + Kitchen. With 10 indoor courts and 6 outdoor courts, it's one of the largest pickleball spots in the regions and a great place to challenge Dad to a little friendly competition. Between matches, grab lunch or drinks from the full-service restaurant and bar, catch up at the social lounge spaces, or keep the competition going with the Topgolf Swing Suites. If your old man starts dialing in his swing, consider it the perfect warmup before heading out to one of our local golf courses.

Tee off with Pops
You can't go wrong with a round of Lake Norman golf with Dad. Birkdale Golf Club remains one of the area's standout public courses, featuring an Arnold Palmer-designed layout and recent course improvements that have given the club a refreshed feel. Skybrook Golf Club is another great option for public play with tee times available for reservation online. For something a little more laid back, head over to Frankie’s of Charlotte for 54 holes of mini golf and a little friendly competition. If clubs aren’t Dad’s forte, spend the afternoon playing disc golf at Bailey Road Park, home to an 18 hole course, or head to Robbins Park for a more casual 9 hole round.

Take a history tour
If Dad is a history buff, get in the car and explore the stories and landmarks that helped shape the Lake Norman we know today. From Revolutionary War ties to preserved downtown districts, there are plenty of ways to step back in time across Cornelius, Davidson, and Huntersville. Be sure to check out our upcoming America 250 for historical sites to add to your Father's Day itinerary.
Take a step into the past with a visit to the Hugh Torance House & Store, one of North Carolina's oldest surviving locations, where guided tours are offered every Sunday. You can also stop by Veterans Park to honor local heroes and spend a meaningful part of Father's Day reflecting together.
Dad Deserves a Good Meal
Father's Day isn't Father's Day without taking Dad out for dinner, so why not grab a bite to eat at one of Lake Norman’s top dining spots? For waterfront views and fresh seafood, head to Hello, Sailor, Lakehouse, or North Harbor Club, where the flavors and cocktails are just as impressive as the scenery. Bin 110 and Boatyard are great options for serving up flavors as well but offer an entertaining twist with live music. If you really want to treat Dad, reserve the Chef’s Table at Kindred or Seaboy for a memorable multi-course dinner and a front-row seat to the culinary action.
Cheers to a Father like No Other
Finish the day out strong by visiting one of Lake Norman’s local breweries and treating Dad to a pint to share. Many breweries across Cornelius, Davidson, and Huntersville host live music performances and special events throughout the week, making it an easy way to kick back, enjoy the evening, and spend some quality time with Pops after a full Father’s Day around the lake.
Stop by one of our many other breweries to sip and sample locally crafted beers.
