Social districts are defined as outdoor, common areas where a person may consume alcoholic beverages sold by permitted establishments (bars, breweries, restaurants) in designated areas. Birkdale Social District
Hours of Operation: Daily - 11AM to 10PM
Birkdale Village is a popular, open-air shopping, dining, and residential area in Huntersville. Town Commissioners passed an ordinance establishing a social district in Birkdale in June 2022. Red Rocks Cafe, Fox & Hound Bar + Grill, Midwood Smokehouse, and Brixx Wood Fired Pizza are some group-friendly restaurants perfect for grabbing a drink in Birkdale. After your meal, walk around the area and shop the local boutiques and then satisfy your sweet tooth with a treat from Kilwin's, Morelia's, or Sugar + Ice. End the night dancing at Live Under the Oaks or catch the latest movie at Regal Birkdale.
Davidson Social District
Hours of Operation: Daily - 11AM to 10PM
The Davidson Social District is the newest addition to Lake Norman. In May 2023, the Davidson Board of Commissioners approved the creation of two social districts in Davidson - Circles Social District and Main Street Social District. As of Friday, March 15, 2024, both districts are now operational between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. all seven days of the week.
1. Circles Social District is located around businesses on Jetton Street, where concerts are typically held. Some widespread companies on that street are Hop & Vine, Clean Juice, 77 Grounds Coffee, Milkbread, Sabor Latin Street Grill, The Original New York Bagels, and more.
2. Main Street Social District is located around Main Street in Downtown Davidson. Some widespread companies that you will find on that street are Davidson Wine Company, Kindred, Summit Coffee, Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse, Davidson Village Inn, The Crazy Pig, Whit's Frozen Custard, and more!
Lake Norman Social District
Hours of Operation: Daily - 12PM to 10PM
Cornelius became one of the first Charlotte-area towns to create a social district in March 2022. Located in the historic downtown area of Cornelius, the district starts at Thigs Cocktail Bar and ends at Milling Way, including Old Town Public House and Cain Center for The Arts. The name "Thigs" was born after co-owner, Kas Matos, traveled to Amsterdam and got inspired to create a European-style cocktail bar in Lake Norman. Some of their signature craft cocktails include the Ananas Spicy Margarita, Lavender Skies, and the Refresher Mule.
Things to Know
- No outside alcohol is permitted within the district.
- All alcoholic beverages must be purchased from ABC-licensed establishments located within or contiguous to the district (in specially labeled cups) and consumed within the district.
- You must dispose of any open container of an alcoholic beverage before exiting the social district unless you are re-entering the establishment where you purchased the drink.
